The Spiritual Dignity Project

When Empty is No Longer an Option

It is hard to imagine the scope of an individuals life without envisioning some kind of trauma, and it is hard for most people to know what to do about it. - Mark Epstein, The Trauma of Everyday Life

what if imagination was a cure?

It is impossible to be alive today and not experience trauma and burnout, entities living on either side of a similar coin. Both steal away our imagination in and occupy our bodies, emotions and our minds with the mission of “ staying safe” which leads to exhaustion and disconnection. Our lives become lived in a repetitive loop of action/reaction that we call safety but ends up feeling like sick and tired. Sick systems and toxic cultures rely on this fear based narrative where personal agency and identity is a forgotten promise, an unused muscle and creativity sacrificed to conformity. The stories of our lives, while we are struggling for meaning in a world of corporate greed, collapsing systems and geopolitical instability, are increasingly at risk of being written by someone else’s pen.

WHAT IF…the solution began with awakening the imagination and calming the body by allowing the sensual and feminine gifts of poetry, art, and resonance with the natural world and the horse herd to restore balance and awaken our soul story so that we become empowered to recognize and respond to oppression in all its colonizing forms and to create the conditions where our spirit, communities and systems are in conversation with connection and peace, not just fear and scarcity. What if our greatest form of resistance might be, despite it all, to be brave enough to imagine?
